ISLAMABAD – Within hours of appointment as acting head the former cop Pervez Rathore lead Pakistan Electronic Media regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has suspended the license of Geo News for fifteen days.

According to the preliminary reports, PEMRA held a meeting on Friday in Islamabad headquarters where the decision was taken place.

PEMRA concluded the long awaited plea filed by Ministry of Defence against misconduct of Geo Network after alleged murder attempt on Hamid Mir in Karachi. Geo News started maligning Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) for being involved in assassination attempt.

The PEMRA cancelled Geo News’ license for fifteen days and also imposed a fine of Rs 10 million. Its pertinent to mention here that private members of PEMRA i.e. Israr Abbasi, Fareeha Iftikhar and Mian Shams were not present in the meeting.

The federal government has appointed the former cop as acting head overnight.
