Humanity begins from the heart and the heart leads to the mind. What if we think from our minds rather than our hearts but it’s in fact the true voice raised from the heart in our cruel society. Some so many children were left alone, thrown in the garbage, on the dark streets. For those innocent souls, Allah Almighty send their people to serve humanity.

Bilquis Edhi (late) was one of them. A lady was an infant, 28 years old ago Rabia Ban was abandoned in a baby carriage at the Edhi Orphanage, Karachi. After she was found, Bilquis Eidhi gave her a name, a home, and an identity.

Rabia Ban got scholarships throughout her academic career, went to pursue higher education in the US, did an internship in NYS Assembly, Bronx District Attorney’s Office U.S Congress, U.S Senate, and went to law school to pursue a master’s in Cyber Security and Data Privacy Law. Now she is currently serving as a Senior Privacy & Compliance Analyst at Nike.

How the decision of converting Govt. College of home Economics effected its programs? /2022/03/30/244/ /2022/03/30/244/#respond Tue, 29 Mar 2022 23:15:38 +0000 /?p=244

Q. What was CHE?
The College of Home Economics, Lahore, was a joint effort of the Government of Pakistan, The Ford Foundation, and the Oklahoma A&M College Division of Home Economics. The foundation of the discipline was laid by Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt during her visit to Pakistan in 1952 (http://archivespaces.library.okstate.edu:8081/repositories/3/resources/173)
It was the first skill-based, inter-disciplinary education system centered on empowering women in Pakistan. The College was officially opened in 1955 and has been affiliated with the University of Punjab since its establishment.
Home Economics is a field of study and a profession, situated in the human sciences that draw from a range of disciplines to achieve optimal and sustainable living for individuals, families, and communities.
Govt. College of Home Economics, Gulberg, Lahore was a Post Graduate College, offering a BS Home Economics program with five major specializations namely, Food and Nutrition, Textiles and Clothing, Related Arts, Child Development, and Home Management. The supporting subjects from natural and social sciences make the discipline of Home Economics an interdisciplinary and most modern field of study.
The college has produced thousands of BS, hundreds of M.Phils, and numerous Ph.D. professionals. These home economists are renowned entrepreneurs (Bareeze, Bahbood, Roots International, American Lycetuff are just a few examples), bureaucrats, politicians, nutritionists, educationists, and counselors for the country, who have excelled professionally and impacted society in a multitude of ways.

Q. How the decision of converting Govt. College of home Economics effected its programs?
2017 act adversely effected the college with all the programs, infrastructure, and academic staff.
Govt. College of home Economics has been converted into a general university with FIVE GENERAL FACULTIES and 25 DEPARTMENTS,
Home Economics has been FULLY IGNORED BY BEING REDUCED FROM A COLLEGE TO A DEPARTMENT IN THE FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES (Vide notification No: 2112, and 2113 dated 13-4-2).
The first two years of Home Economics (Intermediate in-Home Economics) were discontinued as they were not part of university education. Specializations were scattered under different faculties and the whole structure was ruthlessly distorted.
Enrolment in BS Home Economics program reduced from 400 STUDENTS PER YEAR TO JUST 40 students, which means there will be just one specialization to be offered as it is not possible to make sections for 5 specializations with just 40 students. So, this program will gradually end.
Merit has deteriorated a lot as the fee per annum increased from Rs 16000 TO RS 85000 IN 2020 AND RS 95000 IN 2021.
We had brilliant students from low- and middle-income families who now don’t afford to study in this institution. Like any other private institution, only those who can pay can come which has deteriorated the academic standard.

Q. Why was no voice raised at the time of graduation?
At the time of upgradation, there were three important scenarios:
1. Only the principal and a few senior faculty knew what was happening. They were told by the government of that time that by changing the status of the college they will get funds, which can help in building labs, and increasing library and research facilities.
Faculty will be upgraded and will get one scale higher, the fee structure will only be increased slightly
2. There was a group of 7 to 8 teachers who realized that this will not be going to be true, and they went to the secretariat and tried to resist that, but they did not listen, and it was generally assumed that as they were not with 3. 95% of the faculty never knew what was happening, it was kept confidential

Q. What role do faculty play in the formative years?
The faculty tried to explain to the VC who was from the faculty of Library Sciences that if this university has come into being we need to primarily focus on the expansion of Home Economics. All departments gave presentations in which they showed how this discipline can be expanded. However, as VC Sahiba had one point agenda which was to convert it into a general university, she did not agree with the suggestions. the department heads were not heard, they were humiliated and told that their discipline has no value in the market.
As there was no faculty other than the home economists, they were pushed to develop programs and they did that and put their maximum effort, but madam removed the term Home Economics from the nomenclature of all degrees and distorted the shape of the developed programs. As there is no global president of home economics university, she was not ready to take any risk.

The faculty was told they were on deputation and if they will speak about home economics or against what is being done in the university they will be immediately repatriated. as there were no seats in Lahore, they were scared and after a lot of confrontation, they became quiet. whoever finds a seat anywhere in Lahore gets herself transferred. Out of about 70 to 80 home economics faculty members who were in the college of home economics, now less than 20 are there and they are also looking for seats in Lahore.

These faculty members were PHDs, or MSCs with 25 to 30 years of teaching experience in specialized fields of Home Economics, now in the colleges, they got seats doesn’don’ttheir subject so they will just get the pay and they will teach any other thing but their specialty- what a waste of human resource!

Q. Importance of Home Economics.
Home Economics is a field of study and a profession, situated in the human sciences that draws draw a range of disciplines to achieve optimal and sustainable living for individuals, families, and communities.

Govt. College of Home Economics, Gulberg, Lahore is a purpose-built campus of approximately 134 kanals. It was offering a BS Home e Economics program with five major specializations namely Food and Nutrition, Textiles and Clothing, Related Arts, Child Development, and Home Management. The supporting subjects from natural and social sciences make the discipline of Home Economics an interdisciplinary and most modern field of study. The nursery school as a laboratory provides a learning opportunity for students to work with small children which do exist in any other college. Center for children with special needs is another unique set setup college. Home Management Residence houses experience of living together and management of resources  which is an opportunity only provided at Home Economics.

Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics in collaboration with IOWA state university has produced many clinical dietitians and practicing nutritionists. MOU for an international faculty exchange program was signed with IOWA State University for curriculum development and teacher training in all areas of Home Economics. The College developed academic linkages with Textbook Board, TEVTA, CCRC (UNICEF) and Cardiff University -UK.

The M.Phil leading to PhD Program has launched at the campus.D.f College of Home Economics in 2008 after completing all the academic and administrative parameters of HEC Pakistan. These programs were approved as MPhil and PhD separate programs in 2009 and ran successfully till 2017. This Program produced approximately 200 plus MPhil graduates and 12 PhDs, whereas 30 PhD and many MPhil students are in the completion process. Research work and publications done by the students has benefited the community immensely.

This College was the only College of Home Economics in entire Punjab with quota system till 2017. Pakistan Statistical Yearbook 2018-Pakistan Bureau of Statistics has acknowledged Home Economics as a professional discipline.

Status of this discipline globally
Home Economics is currently enjoying renewed attention because of its imperative of improving the world in which we live such that sustainable development is possible.

Several interconnected societal factors such as sustainability, global consumption, health and social justice are NOW aligning around this profession. Internationally Home Economics is being taught in US (in more than 250 universities), UK and many other countries of Europe, Canada, Australia, Japan, India, Kenya. its global revival and importance can be seen in the following research studies and the latest activities can be seen on the official website of International federation of Home Economics.

Q. What has been done till now?
Letters to all relevant political figures including PM, Minister for higher education, Speaker assembly, Law minister, MNA’s and MPA’s, Governor Sahab, Military Secretary to PM
Meetings with these political leaders and with the secretaries in the higher education departments
Alumnae interviews on TV and social media, Columns in the newspapers
Protest outside the press club
Initiating AFOHE and gathering all home economists under one roof
Webinars to gain the support of Home Economics colleges in other provinces
Business excellence awards to demonstrate the importance of Home Economics

Q. Now what sort of support do you want from the Gov?

It is requested on behalf of students, faculty, and alumnae, of Home Economics from all over Pakistan that the Govt. College of Home Economics, Gulberg be restored and given a separate status of a niche college, and as a center of excellence for Home Economics Education.

Q. If your purpose is going to be discouraged what’s the impact on students or the upcoming generation?
Home Economics is currently enjoying renewed attention in the developed countries including US, Australia, Japan, Finland, and Europe, because of its imperative of improving the world in which we live such that sustainable development is possible.

If Govt. College of Home Economics, will not be restored the discipline of home Economics in Pakistan will gradually wither and die. Enrolment in BS Home Economics program has already reduced from 400 students per year to just 38 students and fee per annum has increased from Rs 16000 to Rs 85000 in 2020 and Rs 95000 in 2021.

Q. Do you think the role of home economics college plays a vital role in women empowerment?
College of Home Economics was providing low-cost education to middle school girls. Basic philosophy of H Eco involves around the role of women in the management of basic needs of individuals, families, and communities. There is a holistic approach to teach the management of needs of food, clothing, shelter human relations, mental wellbeing, and aesthetics which are interrelated. Empowering students by becoming aware of and learning basic skills of critical thinking is the main objective. The students are better equipped to manage their own lives and their families. The students learned skills in their labs and use to get hands on experiences. They had the opportunity to experience in all the 5 fields (Food and Nutrition, Textiles and Clothing, Related Arts, Child Development, and Home Management), they could select and excel in the field in which they had the aptitude. Hundreds of  girls graduated from this college are doing home businesses related to foods, textiles, crafts, furniture, jewelry, etc to name a few, as they can’t go out to work due to family concerns. No other discipline has produced so many women entrepreneurs working in such varied fields.
The specialization in the selected field of their choice makes them a better professional due to the broad-based earlier education in home economics. Depriving future generations of women of this broad-based professional education will be a tragedy. As building such institutions of higher education for women will not be possible.
The college has produced renowned researchers, academicians, politicians, entrepreneurs, nutritionists, dieticians, food experts, designers, floral experts, businesswomen, school administrators, counselors  for the country (Bareeze, Bahbood, Roots International, American Lycetuff are just a few examples), all of whom have excelled professionally and impacted society in a multitude of ways.

Politics in journalism, worst trend ever! /2021/10/22/politics-in-journalism-worst-trend-ever/ /2021/10/22/politics-in-journalism-worst-trend-ever/#respond Fri, 22 Oct 2021 08:42:56 +0000 /?p=232

Occasionally there is a backlash in politics, with recent revelations from opposition and government critics targeting Prime Minister Imran Khan, critics say khan rely on witchcraft to make important decisions.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz criticized the Prime Minister’s handling of appointments in the Pakistan Army and made bizarre and baseless claims that he relied on magic spells and supernatural creatures to make decisions. The issue of witchcraft has become a subject of widespread ridicule since he made the allegation, suggesting that the prime minister’s wife, a spiritual figure, has been targeted in the whole situation.
The allegations are still circulating on social media and political supporters are busy criticizing each other. What is more embarrassing is that these baseless allegations have been made by various journalists who have criticized the unethical quality of journalism for writing columns on these topics. Supported Politicians rioted over insulting remarks against the prime minister’s family.
Such controversies by the PML-N are not new. After the removal of Nawaz Sharif from the PM’s post, the party leadership blamed space creatures(aliens). After Imran Khan was elected Prime Minister, the impression was used that space creatures had a secret hand in reaching this position. Instead, the PTI has accused the Sharif family of making money and building properties using magic and superstition.
Regardless of these statements, it should be strongly condemned. Positive politics should be done, such comments are very harmful, we are already a very superstitious nation where spiritual leaders are highly respected, such statements can have a profound effect on voters. Yes, they should be very discouraged.
The media has a strong responsibility to remain neutral and to refrain from slandering any person. It is important for both sides to refrain from polluting the world of politics as it will not serve anyone. Instead, it will harm the nation.

Road to civil supremacy /2021/10/18/road-to-civil-supremacy/ /2021/10/18/road-to-civil-supremacy/#respond Mon, 18 Oct 2021 07:02:37 +0000 /?p=224

According to the notification of ISI 2009/2010, the institution works under the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister has right to make any changes in constitution of institution. Director General ISI could report to COAS & PM both.

An issue has been going on for some days now which has been portrayed as a battle in the civil and military leadership. That so-and-so wants it, so-and-so wants it … while it was not the case … it was not a matter of appointing or keeping General Faiz Hameed or General Nadeem Anjum or not. Some main stream journalists have made it a battle to appoint Anjum or not. They further confused the nation by playing “My sources” stories everytime. Meanwhile Opposition parties, who are always ready to enter GHQ Gate No. 4 in the guise of beggars with their CVs, so that one night they may be overlooked, have been raising the issue without understanding the reality.

These intellectuals re-launched the same 3-year-old commentary on it, criticizing, speculating and predicting martial law, calling every other 48 hours important.

Well, That was not the case. If that was not the case then what was the point? Let’s look at what happened and why…

The practice that was going on till 2019 was that the Army Chief recommends a name for the appointment of DG and the Prime Minister on the recommendation of the Army Chief issues a notification of his appointment. There are two things that go into government offices, “practice” and “rule”. Practice means let what is going on, continue as it is and the role is what is written in the act or service rule. For example, there is a pamphlet called “Business Rules 1973” to run Parliament.

This time it did not happen. The DG’s notification procedure or rule was not followed by the Army. And the ISPR sent a summary of the appointment of the DG to the Prime Minister’s Office without waiting for the Prime Minister to sign the summary or not. The ISPR issued a press release on the appointment of the DG.

In other words, there was no disagreement in the name of appointment of DG. Because the name comes from the office of the army chief. What is at the discretion of the Prime Minister is at the discretion of the Prime Minister. No one can take it away from the PM. In this regard, the Army Chief and the PM had a detailed meeting and agreed to remove any ambiguity in the procedure for the appointment of DG to avoid any untoward accident or rumors in the future.

So-and-so wants to appoint General Faiz Hameed, so-and-so wants to appoint General Nadeem, so-and-so is not in the mood to remove the DG. So he wants And more and more people started preparing for martial law and some started predicting that the government was just a guest for a few days. Nothing like this is going to happen. Whatever else happens will benefit the civil supremacy no matter who the DG is. The simple fact is that a procedure is being worked out for the appointment of DG so that no government has any problem in future.

Besides all, the thing that’s still not known is the fact that the appointment of new DGISI ain’t due at the moment, general faiz could retain his position for six months. This action was taken to make him eligible for becoming next army chief. Let’s see what’s hidden behind the curtain of time!!

A Look At Babar Azam’s Test Career /2021/10/17/a-look-at-babar-azams-test-career/ /2021/10/17/a-look-at-babar-azams-test-career/#respond Sun, 17 Oct 2021 17:37:17 +0000 /?p=204 Pakistan’s right-handed batsman Babar Azam is headed to advance in Test cricket after triumphing ODI and T20I formats. As far as his international rankings are concerned, he is currently the world No1 in ODIs, No2 in T20Is and No6 in Test cricket. With 20 international centuries to his name, the stylish batsman has achieved so much in the first six years of his career, most of the cricketers fail to gain in their entire career.

Early Career

He made his Test debut against West Indies on 13 October 2016. Babar struggled to get the rhythm in his early Test career. He continued to work hard and in November 2018, he managed to convert a half-century into a hundred for the first time. He remained the highest scorer for Pakistan in Test cricket for the two consecutive years; in 2018 and 2019.

Babar Azam Test Centuries

Babar Azam so far has five Test centuries to his name, three of them came in the year 2019. His habit to score big has helped him improve his average in Test cricket that currently stands at 43. His bright future can be gauged by looking at his numbers.

Against Score Venue Date
New Zealand 127 Dubai Nov 24- 28, 2018
Australia 104 Gabba Nov 21- 25, 2019
Sri Lanka 102 Rawalpindi Dec 11 -15 2019
Sri Lanka 100* Karachi Dec 19- 23, 2010
Bangladesh 143 Rawalpindi Feb 7- 11, 2020

Record of Babr Azam’s Test stats

The 27-year-old has so far batted in 63 innings of 35 Tests across his career. His highest score is 143 that came against Bangladesh at Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi in 2019.

With 2,362 runs to his name with five centuries and 18 fifties, Babar averages 42.94 in his career. He is currently perched at No6 in the ICC Men’s Test batsmen rankings and hopes to climb to the top of it very soon.

Above all, Babr Azam’s batting performances have been the mouthpiece of his exceptional cricket career. Due to his cricket background, there has been a great debate among critics between Babr Azam and Virat Kohli. There has been a question whether Babr Azam would be able to overpower Virat Kohli by strong performance in the field of cricket by Babr Azam Surpassed Virat Kohli- a proud Indian Cricket team.

Iran-Azerbaijan conflict /2021/10/13/iran-azerbaijan-conflict/ /2021/10/13/iran-azerbaijan-conflict/#respond Wed, 13 Oct 2021 16:00:36 +0000 /?p=181 The arrival of the Iranian army chief in Pakistan on the Iran-Azerbaijan conflict came as a surprise to most people
Before commenting on this, it would be better to recall some facts, the issues of which must have been discussed between the Pakistani and Iranian officials during this visit.
The special relationship between Iran and India dates back to 1994, when Pakistan wanted to raise the Kashmir issue in the OIC and seek a joint resolution from them. Arrived in Tehran. Some commitments were made and Iran withdrew from the resolution and put its weight behind India.
Iran then shifted its weight in Afghanistan to Ahmad Shah Massoud and stopped the Taliban, thus launching a proxy war in which Iran, India and Russia were on one side and the United States (to some extent) Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Gulf on the other side
Due to this proxy war, Iran made an agreement with India that in any Pak-India war, it would provide bases to India so that India could attack Pakistan from both sides.
At that time, Pakistan understood the importance of Azerbaijan and joined hands with it. That is why Pakistan never recognized Armenia. And Azerbaijan has since fully endorsed and supported Pakistan’s position on Kashmir.
Seeing the possible balance of power shifting in Afghanistan, Azerbaijan launched a war to withdraw Karabakh from Armenia, in which Israel, Turkey and Pakistan sided with Azerbaijan. Refrained from taking any action against Iran.
Seeing the opportunity after the US withdrew from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan took the step and said that it only stopped the trucks of Iran going to Russia (ie closed only the North-South corridor through which India also intended to pass but Iran also blocked it). However, Iran’s position is that there are Israeli military bases in Azerbaijan. This could not be confirmed by any independent source. However, it was learned that there are Israeli spy bases in Azerbaijan from which Israel can launch an air strike on Iran’s nuclear program so that Iran can reach Iran even before the US nuclear talks begin. Nuclear capability has been blocked and a standstill agreement has been reached.
The possibility of Israel having a military base in Azerbaijan cannot be ruled out. If it does not exist now, it could happen in the future. This is the sword that is hanging over Iran’s head.
That is why Iran turned to Moscow and Islamabad to settle its dispute with Azerbaijan. After the Iranian military chief, the Iranian foreign minister is also expected to visit.
It seems that Iran is realizing the new power equation in Asia, so it turned to Moscow and Islamabad. It is hoped that matters will be settled with the brotherly Islamic country because the speech of the President of Azerbaijan is meaningful.
It is not appropriate for a Muslim country to side with a non-Muslim country (India and Armenia) against another Muslim country
This was the basic condition of the President of Azerbaijan. We also welcome this policy and consider Iran’s potential to become part of the proposed Asian security plan, called Asian NATO under the SCO, with an understanding of the power and political equations in Asia. It is hoped that the brotherly Islamic country has realized that Asia is not the Middle East at all. Taking a solo flight here is an invitation to disaster. And to base or promise a non-Muslim country against a Muslim country is further destruction.
In any case, we welcome our Iranian Muslim brothers to this new possible change policy and hope that they will soon be able to make a clear decision, free from hesitation.
Now what has this got to do with Kashmir?
Needless to say, just look at China’s pressure on India’s borders and consider the failure of Sino-Indian talks in Ladakh and the situation becomes pretty much clear.

Breast cancer in Pakistani women /2021/10/02/breast-cancer-in-pakistani-women/ /2021/10/02/breast-cancer-in-pakistani-women/#respond Sat, 02 Oct 2021 15:31:07 +0000 /?p=191

Breast cancer is spreading rapidly among Pakistani women. The month of October is celebrated all over the world and across Pakistan as Breast Cancer Prevention to raise awareness about this deadly disease. Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer in Asian countries. Every year, more than 40,000 women die of the disease. In addition, one out of every ten Pakistani women is diagnosed with breast cancer. There is a danger. The main cause of death from breast cancer in Pakistan is the reluctance of women to diagnose, treat and talk about the disease. Women turn to the doctor when it is too late. According to experts, complete diagnosis is possible if the disease is diagnosed early.

Women can be the first to identify and diagnose breast cancer. Women should check for themselves. If they notice any changes, they should seek immediate treatment. In western countries, older women are between the ages of 50 and 60, but in Pakistan, the rate is higher among younger women and women between the ages of 30 and 40 are more prone to it. In addition, there are many other factors that cause women to suffer from this disease. If the disease is hereditary and other women in the family have been affected, if the woman is overweight and has a miscarriage, women who started menstruating at a very young age such as 8 or 9 years and whose menstrual period lasts Continued after the age of 50. Women who have children after the age of 30 have a much higher risk of breast cancer. It is important for women to make their own diagnosis. If there is a lump in the breast or armpit, skin lesions and scratches that are not healing, and skin texture or color changes, contact a medical professional immediately. Not all wounds or lumps are signs of cancer, but caution is in order. If diagnosed early, the cure rate is 80%.

Women need to see a doctor and have a mammography and clinical breast examination immediately after the self-examination. It is also important for healthy women to have a mammogram at least once every 5 years after the age of 30. A hero for heroless nation /2021/09/05/a-hero-for-heroless-nation/ /2021/09/05/a-hero-for-heroless-nation/#respond Sun, 05 Sep 2021 14:55:28 +0000 /?p=174 Ralph Emerson wrote in his classic poem …

Not gold, but only man can make
A people great and strong;
Men who, for truth and honor’s sake,
Stand fast and suffer long.

Brave men who work while others sleep,
Who dare while others fly–
They build a nation’s pillar’s deep
And lift them to the sky.

And the prime example character of this poem is none other than Syed Ali Geelani. He was the man who stood tall for his nation’s freedom fight. He was a brave man who remained firm in his beliefs. He suffered for the liberty and honor of his people. A true hero who didn’t let the torch of liberty fall down. Syed Ali Geelani was a real voice of Kashmiri brethren. His struggle for freedom of Kashmir can’t be expressed in words. Friends betrayed him many times and enemy kept him in prison for long, but he didn’t bow down to the oppressing Indian regime. He was the most patriotic Pakistani who has ever lived. But people of Pakistan are largely unaware of their loss. Geelani stood for the cause of Pakistan. But Pakistan left him alone.
Despite all the hardships, Syed Ali Geelani didn’t give up. He is a metaphor for struggle and fight. And he will be the torch bearer of Kashmiri freedom movement. He is alive in the prayers and thoughts of people of Kashmir. It is men like Syed Ali Geelani who build a nation. I am sure that when finally Kashmiris are able to win their freedom, they will pay tribute to Syed Ali Geelani for showing and leading them towards the path of freedom.
