ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) affiliated leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khurshd Shah on Friday defended NAB chief Qamar Zaman Chaudhry after Supreme Court ordered registration of a case against him in NICL scam case.
His comments came after the Supreme Court delivered its verdict in the multi-billion-rupee National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam case and directed the NAB to file a case against NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry and Federal Tax Ombudsman Abdul Rauf Chaudhry for hindering investigations of the case.
“The appointment of NAB chairman was made by parliament in line with the constitution,” Shah said. “The NAB chief is not involved in corruption.”
He is being punished for dismissing an officer, the opposition leader said, adding that Chaudhry had apologized from the Supreme Court despite have done no corruption. –
In a statement, Khursheed Shah said Qamar Zaman Chaudhry was not involved in corruption and that he was being targeted for merely removing an officer.
Defending NAB chief appointment, Shah said contempt of court case against him was one-and-a-half year old.
The opposition leader said NAB chief could not be removed in an unconstitutional way as the constitution provides rules for appointing and removing the bureau’s head.
