The premier was holding the consultation over the issue removing Musharraf’s name from ECL. The debate within PML-N took as long as the next high level security meeting with top civil and military leaders was called off.
Earlier today, PakistanTribe reported that the advocate Farogh Naseem had convened a meeting with Pervez Musharraf in which he informed the former military strongman that his name would be removed from ECL within a week.
Yesterday, the special court indicted the former military strongman for the imposition of emergency in late 2007 and other steps he took during his rule.
The former judge of Supreme Court, Justice Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui, said that as now Musharraf had been indicted so the court could grant him immunity from court appearances. He said that trial could continue in Musharraf’s absence as well. Court could consider sending him abroad for some valid reasons provided a strong guarantee was provided.
Moreover, the special court said in its order that only government could decide on Musharraf’s travel outside Pakistan as it was the government that included his name in the ECL. Court also mentioned Musharraf has not been barred to move free. He is not under arrest. Government cannot stop him from travelling abroad only by considering his under process trial in the Special Court.
