ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif rejecting the criticism that his government is pursuing a dual policy on US drone strikes said that the attacks are being carried out despite that US administration was conveyed about Pakistan’s apprehension.
He said the strikes had hurt him, adding that they are said drone strikes are injustice with Pakistan. Pleading that there should be no politics on drone strikes and national security, he said that drone strikes were not acceptable at all.
Addressing national consultation conference on Vision 2025 and 11th Five-Year Plan, Nawaz said he had raised the drone issue before US President Barrack Obama.
Expressing resolve that terrorism and extremism would be eliminated at every cost, the prime minister said his government is interested in successful dialogue process for peace in country.
He said the US also believes that the present Pakistani government is not pursuing a double standard policy based.
The conference was attended by Chief Ministers of all four provinces including Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Parvez Khan khattack, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, Prime Minister AJK Chaudhry Abdul Majeed and others.
He said the dialogues were suspended as a result of one attack. He said the whole nation should have to stop way of violation of constitution in country, adding the courts were sealed and judges were detained.
He said whole nation should think about this national crime. He said that the wrong use of loud speakers should be stopped, adding that the people involved in terrorism and sectarianism should be brought to justice. He hundreds criminals were arrested from Karachi, adding that if these criminals would not be punished then 10 times more criminals will take birth.
He said Pakistan wants good relations with India and Afghanistan. He said no provincial government would be toppled through conspiracy, adding that the PML-N will not become part of any such conspiracy. He said that the issues of terrorism and extremism should be settled once and for all in country.
Nawaz said there no benefit of raising slogans while sitting on TV channels, adding that instead of wasting his time while sitting on TV channels he used to work for the nation while sitting in his office.
He emphasized that there should be no politics on the issues of economy and security. However, those responsible for the current state of affairs should be held accountable.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed the government’s strong resolve to make country cradle of peace and revive the economy on strong footing.
He said that extraordinary and revolutionary measures are required to eradicate the issues of lawlessness, terrorism, unemployment and improvement of education standard in order to secure the future of next generations. In this regard, all the federating units will have to play their due role.
On the economic front, the Prime Minister said the government has formulated an economic reforms and incentive package for the business community in order to attract maximum investment. He said he will announce the package during his visit to Karachi on Tuesday. Similarly, he said he will hold consultations with the representatives of agriculture sector to bring reforms in the sector. He said incentives will also be announced for the agriculture sector in order to steer the country out of current economic crisis.
Calling upon the youth to play their role in the development of the country, Nawaz Sharif said the government will soon launch a big scheme for them under which they will be given loans on low markup. He said the loans will equally be given to educated and skilled boys and girls so that they could earn their livelihoods and stand on their own feet.
Referring to the energy crisis, the Prime Minister said duration of power outages has reduced since the assumption of power by the PML (N). We retired circular debt of over five hundred billion rupees. We do not take credit of this as we need to do more to overcome this issue, which can not be overcome over night.
He said a period of four years is required to overcome the electricity issue besides we have to produce electricity keeping in view the future requirements.
Work on Diamer Basha and Dasu will be started simultaneously besides we also plan to launch Bunji project. These three projects will add about 16000 megawatt of electricity to the national grid. He said these are long term projects but we want to complete them in the minimum possible time.
Nawaz announced to inaugurate civil nuclear power plant in Karachi on 26th November. The plant will produce 2117 megawatt electricity. Pakistan and China jointly will establish this plant.
On Gas shortage, he said the government is working on fast track basis to ensure its uninterrupted to the industrial and domestic consumers.
Referring to the economic corridor, the Prime Minister said this project from Khunjrab to Gawadar will bring prosperity for entire region.
Turning to the issue of terrorism, the Prime Minister said the government has opted for the dialogue policy to deal with the issue. We want the dialogue process to succeed but regrettably, a drone hit the tribal area when we are about to commence the dialogue process. He maintained that drone attacks are inappropriate and against the sovereignty of Pakistan.
He said we want elimination of terrorism once and for all and the government has recently introduced a number of laws to give exemplary punishment to the culprits. He said he will consult other parties to bring constitutional amendment envisaging no bail for the criminals involved in heinous crimes. The provincial governments should also frame laws to deal with the issues of sectarian violence and terrorism.
On the occasion, the prime minister directed the ministry of planning and development to share the objectives of Vision 2025 with the general public and the youth through the media and incorporate their inputs in the final document.
Speaking on the occasion, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said efforts are afoot to reduce budget deficit to four percent, enhance growth rate to six percent and investment to GDP ratio to twenty percent from 12 percent in the next three years. He said the government took loan from the IMF to pay back loan taken by the previous government.
He said due to our efforts economic indicators have started showing positive results in just a span of five months with exports, taxes, remittances and foreign inflows showing upward trend. He said certainly Pakistan would become economic power in the leadership of Mian Nawaz Sharif.
He said the previous government has left debts on current government, adding the PML-N government is paying these debts. He said PML-N will not make any compromise or accept any dictation over its manifesto. He said serious disease could be treated through Panadol.
Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said energy security, sustainable growth, development of human and social capital, value addition in productive sector, modernization of infrastructure and regional connectivity, private sector led growth and security and institutional reforms are the key priorities of Vision 2025 and the five year development plan. He said the government will play the role of facilitator in the realization of Vision 2025 while the private sector and overseas Pakistanis will be encouraged to play leading role in it. He said we will provide all the facilities to the investors, scientists and youth to take the economy to new heights.
