extortionists-in-karachiKARACHI – Adviser to the Chief Minister on Home Affairs Sharfuddin Memon has said that computerised arm licenses would be issued within two months as the department was facing a shortage of lamination ink and papers required for the production of licence books.

Sharfuddin said that arrangements regarding issuance of the new computerised arm licenses were in progress and soon the licences would be issued.

To a query why no action was taken against licence holders who did not submit forms for Computerised arm licenses, Sharfuddin said that a mechanism would be formed with the cooperation of police and NADRA officials to take action against them.

He also said that the provincial government was also mulling over to give some more days to the remaining license holders who did not get the Computerised arms license forms and the date would be announced soon.

Meanwhile, the Karachi police spokesman, Atique Ahmed Shaikh, told PPI that no arms were submitted in police stations across the city after expiry of the submission date for Computerised arms licenses forms.

It is pertinent to mention here that the deadline for computerising manual arm licences in the province ended on 15 February 2014 and provincial home department declared all manual firearm licenses void and directed their holders to submit their licence and weapon to the respective police stations.

Moreover, sources in Sindh home ministry told PPI that more than 1,000,000 arms licenses were present in the province but only 543, 273 people had submitted their forms to computerise their manual arm licenses.

more than 110,000 forms were issued by NADRA to different DC offices across the province out of which 737,000 forms were issued to people after verifying their manual arms licenses. It states that out of 737,000 forms issued, only 543, 273 forms were submitted back while 193,727 forms were still not submitted.

The data states that 88,111 forms were issued in Karachi and 72,990 people submitted their forms at different district offices in the city. In Hyderabad, 191,463 forms were issued out of which 137,375 were submitted. Similarly, 65,525 forms were issued in Mirpur Khas and 48,118 were submitted.

It states that 101,716 people received forms for computerising manual arm licenses in Sukkur and only 58, 834 people submitted it after fulfilling all formalities. In Larkana, 96, 458 forms were issued and 61, 224 people submitted their forms.
