Militants attack Frontier Corps vehicle in Quetta, minor girl died

WEB DESK – In a horrific yet tragic incident of barbaric act of terrorism, a minor girl child was killed along with 15 others innocent people sustained injuries as militants ambushed Frontier Corps (FC) vehicle by a planted bomb.

According to local police authorities and rescue sources, a powerful explosion took place in Sraib Road area of Quetta on Saturday. The injured included three FC personnel, women and children. He added that a minor girl succumbed to her injuries on her way to a hospital.

Security officials cordon off the area after immediately arriving at the scene and rescue teams launched the first aid for those sustained injuries. The dead bodies were also immediately shifted to the nearby hospitals. The injured persons were quickly rushed to Civil Hospital Quetta for medical treatment. Doctors and paramedics were called on an emergency basis to treat the injured persons.

Speaking to media personnel, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Imran Qureshi said that militants targeted the vehicle of Frontier Corps (FC) through an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). He said the militants had planted an IED in a rickshaw parked on the roadside. “There was a powerful blast when a FC vehicle was passing by in the area,” Qureshi stated.

The SP said the intensity of the blast smashed the windows of nearby homes and shops located in the area.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. However, police suspect that Baloch militants operating in the area carried out the attack.

Sariab road is considered to be one of the sensitive areas of Quetta. Militants have been targeting security forces in the area for more than a decade.
