ISLAMABAD – The ongoing high profile high-treason trial of former President General (rtd) Pervez Musharraf has had cost at least Rs 20.501 million as the amount was paid in terms of fee to government lawyers.
Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told the National Assembly on Wednesday that 23 members of the legal team have been paid the amount.
Nisar submitted a written reply in National Assemly in response to the question asked by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s member of the lawmakers’ club Shafqat Mehmood.
According to the detailed answer, Rs 10.50 million was paid to 12 members of prosecution team while remaining Rs 10 million was paid to 11 members of constitutional experts.
Giving details of fee paid to Prosecution team he said the head of legal team Muhammad Akram Sheikh senior advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan has been paid only Rs 999 as fee. Naseer ud Din Khan Nayyer advocate has been paid Rs 5,000,000. Sardar Asmatullah advocate, Tayyab Jafri advocate and Ishtiaq Ibrahim advocate have been paid Rs 1,000,000 each. Barrister Natalya Kamal advocate, Barrister Sajeel Sheryar, Mian Moazzam Habib and Ch Hasan Murtaza Mann have been paid Rs 500,000 each as fee. Likewise, Faraz Raza advocate and Muhammad Haider Imtiaz advocate have been paid 250,000 each.
Giving details of fee paid to 11 member constitution team he said Tariq Hassan advocate, Ch Muhammad Ikram advocate and Ishtiaq Ibrahim advocate have been paid Rs 100,000 each as fee. Nasir ud Din Khan Nayyer advocate, Natalya Kamal advocate, Barrister Sajeel Sheryar advocate and Chaudhry Hasan Murtaza Mann advocate have been paid Rs 500,000 each as fee. Fara Raza advocate and Muhammad Haider Haider Imtiaz advocate have been paid Rs 250,000 each as fee.
And Barrister Sharjeel Adnan Sheikh advocate did not get any fee as member of prosecution team and Barrister Muhammad Raheel Kamran advocate and Naeem Qureshi advocate was not paid any fee as members of constitutional team.
The high treason trial is still hanging at cross road as lawyers of the Musharraf is engaging prosecution team and Special Court in issues like eligibility of the Special Court to hear the trial and neutrality of the prosecutors.
