Rawalpindi, Islamabad to have Metro Bus in January 2015

ISLAMABAD – The foundation stone laying ceremony of Punjab government’s mass transit transport system between Rawalpindi and Islamabad is scheduled to be held on Sunday, March 23 which will take next ten months to be completed.

Government of Punjab has announced to finally lay down the foundation stone of the much awaited mega project.

According to the official estimates, the project will be completed within 10 months which means residents of twin cities would be able to utilize metro bus service in January 2015.

In the project, a total of 23 kilo meter elevated road tracks would be constructed for the buses. There will be 24 stations of this project on which 60 latest buses would carry as many as 150,000 passengers on daily basis.

After Rawalpindi-Islamabad, the Punjab government wants to start similar mass transit transport projects in Faisalabad and Multan.

According to International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Pakistan chapter has termed Lahore Metro Bus project as one out of three environmental friendly projects in Pakistan. However, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q)’s leader Mushahid Hussain Syed had approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan over potential threat of this project for Islamabad’s greenery.
