NADRA never knew about its own ghost employees

ISLAMABAD – Ironically the government authority which is supposed to maintain accurate database of all citizens of Pakistan remained unaware of as many as 361 ghost employees which were now terminated.

According to retrieved information from televised reports and internal sources, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) had been paying salaries to at least 361 ghost employees since long.

Federal Interior Minister Chaudry Nisar Ali Khan visited the NADRA headquarter today who, after receiving briefing from the officials, said that all ghost employees were taken care of and their salaried had been stopped.

Nisar also informed media that as many as 12 NADRA employees were sacked for their alleged involvement in issuing fake Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs).

Speaking to media personnel, he also informed about the recent bar imposed on NADRA employees from meeting any foreigner. However, he never explained why any such bar was needed.

Nisar also ordered an audit of all regional offices of the organization in order to pin point any other irregularities, if any.

NADRA works under Ministry of Interior for keeping up to date records of all nationals. It was established in 2000 by then government.

Currently, NADRA is working under an interim chairman, Imtiaz Tajwar, who actually is an additional secretary with interior division. Tajwar resumed charge as NADRA’s chairman on January 13 after Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government sacked Tariq Malik from the post.
