A petition comprising signatures of 17 people from various walks of life including education, research and business have appealed to the court to take notice of the situation.
According to the petition, administration has imposed a ban on YouTube, Encyclopedia, Google Scholar and some sites depriving people from valuable information.
Pakistan has banned the world’s largest video sharing site in Sep 2012 over release of a controversial video on Islam sparking worst reaction worldwide. Since then, many efforts have been made to restore the site, but all have gone in vain.
Hearing the argument, SHC has summoned secretaries of IT and Interior and other officials to give their stance on the issue on April 17.
Earlier, the IT officials have surrendered efforts saying they couldn’t restore the site while blocking some particular URL – carrying the controversial content.
