ISLAMABAD – The darling of Pakistani politics and chief of Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has been stopped – for reasons yet to be known – at Benazir International Airport, Islamabad.
According to the televised reports, Rasheed was stopped at the airport when he was all set to travel to Canada on Friday morning.
Speaking to media personnel at airport, Rasheed said that Pakistan International Airline (PIA) informed him that he was not allowed to travel abroad. He confirmed the his name was not in the exit control list.
Rasheed had scheduled processions in Canada where he would be addressing the expat Pakistani community.
Interestingly, PIA stopped Rasheed from travelling in its flight. An airline can only stop a passenger from getting on board if he/she has extra luggage, misbehave with crew, carrying a banned item, and not for any other reason such as ECL.
Government and airline officials made no clarification whatsoever so far on this incident.
Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed is the elected member of National Assembly from Rawalpindi. He is famous for his political predictions and always remain in media limelight due to his spontaneous satirical statements against his opponents.
