DG Rangers says powers not enough to restore peace in Karachi

Sindh Rangers

WEB DESK – The Director General of Sindh Rangers, Major General Rizwan Akhter has admitted that powers given to the paramilitary force were not enough to restore peace in Karachi.

DG Rangers was speaking to media representatives on Wednesday on the occasion of inaugural ceremony of Command and Control Center at Industrial Area, Karachi.

Rizwan reminded the media representatives that after the famous verdict of Supreme Court which was given on 24 August, 2011, certain powers were designated to Sindh Rangers. However, those were never enough as still we could only search and arrest suspects. We (Sindh Rangers) cannot investigate the crime committed.

He also maintained that due to weak law enforcement and lacuna in procedures, witnesses on any crime usually hesitate to help in investigations.

However, he vowed to do as much as the force could do to restore peace in the largest metropolitan city of the country.
