WEB DESK – Pakistani judiciary has gained an international repute for the country as one Pakistani judge, Justice (rtd) Ali Nawaz Chowhan sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Republic of Gambia.
According to an official communique by foreign office of Pakistan, Gambian President Dr Yahya Jammeh administered the oath to Justice Chowhan on 6th March 2014 at a dignified ceremony held in Gambia’s capital Banjul.
Pakistan and The Gambia enjoy close and cordial relations. The appointment of a Pakistani Judge to head the highest judicial body in The Gambia attests to the warmth and friendship that the two countries have been enjoying in their relations.
Justice Ali Nawaz Chowhan’s Profile
Justice Chowhan is a distinguished and renowned international legal practitioner. He has served as a Judge of the Lahore High Court. He has also served as a Judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY). Justice Chowhan is a Graduate of Columbia Law School. He is the second Judge from Pakistan to serve as Chief Justice of The Gambia.
