G8 suspends Russian participation in its meetings

WEB DESK – The foreign minister of France has revealed that Group of Eight (G8) suspended the participation of Russia in its meetings, Russia Today reported.

According to the report, the foreign minister of France Laurent Fabius maintained that despite Russia’s suspension, President Putin is still invited to visit France on June 6.

“At the moment, he is still invited. As for the G8 as a political formation for the dialogue of all big states together, we have decided to suspend the participation of Russia, there will be seven countries that gather [for the summit] – without Russia,” Fabius said.

US and European Union (EU) have been putting sanctions on Russian and Ukraine after Crimea decided to re-join Russian federation in a referendum.

Official reaction from Russain representatives over the G8 suspension is still awaited.
