WEB DESK – According to a research conducted by one famous Swedish institute Pakistan had increased its weapons’ acquisitions from 2 percent of the global total to 5 percent that made it one of the top five arms importers in the world.
According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the world’s top five weapons importer from the year 2009-13 were India, China, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
The report further revealed that in a global scenario of conflicts and increased terrorism, the overall sale of weapons increased by 14 percent as compared to the previous five years i.e. 2004-08.
Report also claims that in the year 2010, India replaced China as global largest buyer of the weapons. Moreover, Russia remained the top seller of weapons to India which accounts almost 75 percent of India’s total purchases.
According to SIPRI, during 2009-13, the largest arms suppliers were US, Russia, Germany, China and France with their global shares of 29 percent, 27 percent, 7 percent, 6 percent and 5 percent respectively.
