Francophony Festival 2014 celebrations take off at NUML Islamabad | PakistanTribeISLAMABAD – Following the footsteps of 220 million francophones (French speakers) in 75 countries worldwide, the French Department at National University of Modern Languages (NUML) has also started celebrating a week-long celebration of Francophony Festival 2014, one of the biggest events of the year for French Speaking People.

 

French Language Department of NUML in collaboration with Embassy of France in Islamabad and Alliance Françoise has been holding these Francophone celebrations every year. This year, under the auspices of NUML, these celebrations are taken place at three different places including NUML, Alliance Françoise and Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and these all activities will be culminating into one big extravagant closing ceremony at NUML on 18th March.

 

Speaking at the occasion DG Brig Azam Jamal said that celebrating French week each year had shown our belief and commitment for the promotion of international languages and literature of the world. French Department at NUML had major role in setting up the tradition of celebrating the Francophony week in Pakistan.

 

Two Chinese girls singing a french song at French Song Competition in Francophony Festival 2014 at NUML | PakistanTribeHe said NUML’s Department of French Language had been promoting French language, literature and culture since long and its students had scored highest marks in DELF and DALF exams of French language and now they were offering their service in different public and private sectors as French language teachers, translators and business executives.

 

Under these celebrations, different competitions including Skit, Songs, Poems, Spelling B and Quiz in French Language will be held in different institutes of Islamabad and start of this competition has been made on 10th of Mrach from Alliance Francoise. NUML had arranged French songs competition, poems in which students from Alliance Francoise, BahriaUniversity, Quaid-e-AzamUniversity and AIOU participated and students’ performances were greatly appreciated by the audience.  

 

This event will continue till March 18 in which French poem, song, and skit competitions will be held while a French Cultural Fair, Interactive Session for French Speaking students and concert will also be held on the last day of this event. Director Planning and Coordination Brig (R) Dr Riasat Ali, Head of French Department Zille Zahra, Deans, heads, Directors, Faculty member and students of different institutions including AllamaIqbalUniversity, BahriaUniversity, Quaid-i-AzamUniversity and Alliance Françoise also attended the event.
