KARACHI – To control the increasing diabetic foot infection cases, National Institute of Diabetes & Endocrinology, Dow University of Health Sciences established Diabetic Foot Clinic at its Ojha Campus.
Sardar Yasin Malik, Chairman Hilton Group of Companies and Prof. Masood Hameed Khan along with senior faculty members formally inaugurated the Clinic today.
Speaking at the inaiguraton ceremony, Sardar Yasin Malik and and Prof. Masood Hameed Khan said that Diabetes is an accidently diseases, patients does not when they become the diabetic. Pakistan is one of the countries having a very high prevalence of diabetes. According to International Diabetes Federation, all over world, diabetes patient get foot amputation after every 20.
Diabetes is increasing very fast. There is urgent need to make necessary efforts for the prevention and management of diabetes and its complications. It is also hoped that the increased awareness will lead to more resources to fight the causes of diabetes and help fund research into improved treatment options.
They further informed that this Diabetic Foot Clinic will be supervised by seniors Diabetologists, Orthopaedics, plastic surgeons as well as rehabilitation team of DUHS. They said that the diabetic foot complications could be prevented by controlling diabetes, cholesterol, high blood pressure control and caring for the foot. He further informed that Diabetic Foot Clinic at DUHS would provide diagnostic and treatment facilities to diabetics’ patients suffering from any sort of foot infection
In the end, camps for free blood sugar, cholesterol, BMI (Obesity) test and free eye and foot check-up was conducted. Literature regarding preventive measures and food and fruit intakes were distributed among the participants.
