Yesterday (Tuesday) before the match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka many experts were of the opinion that Pakistani players would face hatred in Bangladesh but the scene was opposite in the stadium.
Thousands of fans came to stadium with Pakistani flags in their hands which surprised everyone. And when Sharjeel Khan started to play strokes, the entire stadium was dancing in joy.
It needs to be mentioned here that given the political tension, particularly the diplomatic row between the two countries, there was a rumor that something might go wrong.
The death sentence of Abdul Qadir Mulla was the main issue in that context but things have turned out exactly opposite. It should also be mentioned here that despite of all these rumors Pakistani captain Misbah was quite positive.
When asked whether he expects any reaction in Bangladesh, Misbah-ul-Haq was optimistic to the point that he said it would be like playing in Lahore.”We always enjoy playing in Bangladesh,” Misbah said. “When we are supporting Bangladesh, people are supporting Bangladesh. But when we are playing against any other team, it looks like we are playing at home.
It is very nice to be here, and play in the Shere Bangla National Stadium. We played the World Cup quarterfinal here in 2011. It was also a game where we felt we are in Lahore. It is good to be here.
Experts said that Misbah’s optimism didn’t quite match the current mood in the country but the Bangladeshi supporters proved Misbah right.
