KU and IRAN sign MoU to nurture scientific relations

KARACHI: International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) and Karachi University (KU), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Iranian Research Organisation for Science and Technology (IROST), Iran to foster cooperation in chemical and biological sciences between the two countries.

The MoU was signed in Iran in the recent visit of Director ICCBS Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary. Choudhary and President of IROST-Iran Professor Ahmed Akbari signed the MoU on behalf of their institutions. This MoU was signed during the international workshop & exhibition on Sustainable Utilization of Natural Products for Human Health and Well-Being.

Under this MoU, IROST and ICCBS agreed to cooperate in exchanges of information, positive experiences, post graduate students, experts, and research findings in the areas of mutual interest including industrial technologies such as biotechnology and nanotechnology, natural product chemistry, molecular medicine and drug development, protein chemistry and industrial analysis.

The IROST Chief said that his institution is considered one of the leading institutions in Iran, where scientists are engaged day and night in their research activities.

Dr. Choudhary said that the both the institutions will mostly focus in industrial technologies, including biotechnology, nanotechnology, and herbal medicine. He said that the collaborative activities to be covered by this agreement may include faculty and research staff exchanges, study abroad program, collaborative research programs, including the exchange of voucher samples, and natural product extracts; joint seminars, workshops, and service programs.

This Agreement will be in effect for a period of five years from the date of execution and may be extended by mutual agreement in writing by both parties, he said.
