KARACHI – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has withheld the judgement in vote recount case against Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) winning candidate Saeed Ghani in PS-114 Karachi.
Barrister Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan while arguing before the court rejected the charges of rigging against Saeed Ghani and urged ECP to notify him as winning Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Sindh.
The ECP had halted the notification of PPP candidate Saeed Ghani’s victory in the PS-114 elections last day.
The ECP was hearing a petition by Mutahidda Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) candidate Kamran Tessori for a vote recount.
MQM-P had pleaded the ECP to order the returning officer to conduct a recount of votes for the recently-held elections in PS-114 in Karachi.
Ghani had secured 23,840 votes against MQM-P candidate Kamran Tessori’s 18,106 votes, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results.
MQM-P had claimed that the PPP had used unfair means to win the elections.
Later, talking to media, chief of Mutahidda Quomi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Farooq Sattar said the ruling PPP had used state resources for winning by elections of Karachi.
MQM-P candidate was not provided from 14 and 15 of 21 polling stations, he added.
