ISLAMABAD – A member of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to probe Sharif family’s assets exposed in Panama case is most likely to fly to Doha on July 6 to record the statement of Qatari Prince Hamad bin Jassim, sources said on Tuesday.

According to local media reports, one of the JIT members will go to Qatar after the prince offered full accommodation, but who will that member be, is not decided yet.

On Monday, addressing the media after Hasan Nawaz’s appearance before the JIT, Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Asif Kirmani said the JIT report cannot be completed without recording the statement of the Qatari prince.

Talking about the Qatari prince, whose letter came to the aid of the Sharif family during the Panama Papers case hearing by the Supreme Court earlier this year, Kirmani said the royal family member has repeatedly requested the JIT to record his statement but they have not done so.

Earlier on June 22, the JIT had written a letter to the prince to appear before it at the Pakistan High Commission in Qatar and record his statement. It had strictly advised him not to bring his lawyer and accountant with him during the investigation on June 29 or 30, 2017, whichever date suited him.

He had been directed to inform the JIT about suitability of the date before June 26.

The Qatari prince was informed that he would not be given any questionnaire in advance rather he would have to answer the questions directly during the investigation.
