PESHAWAR – As Banu announces the celebration of Eid Al Fitr 2017 on Sunday with Saudi Arabia and UAE, a non-official moon sighting meeting is also underway at Masjid Qasim Ali Khan on Saturday to sight the Shawwal moon.
UPDATE: Charsaddah moon sighting committee has announced it will also celebrate Eid 2017 tomorrow (Sunday), June 25.
Update: Mardan and Swabi have also announced to first Eid 2017 will be on Sunday.
According to sources, fifteen testimonies have already been received regarding the sighting of the Shawwal moon from the different parts of the city.
Similar moon sighting meetings are also being held in Charsaddah, Swabi, and Mardan.
Every year Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai heads the Committee of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan in Peshawar to sight the Shawwal moon.
However, this year Mufti Popalzai has left the country for Dubai and his subordinates are part of the meeting which is underway to sight the moon.
Sunday is the first day of Eid al-Fitr as the crescent of Shawwal has been sighted in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states, as per Arab media.
In Pakistan, Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (CRHC) will meet in Peshawar on June 25 in connection with Shawwal moon sighting.
The meeting would be held on June 25 at Aiwan-e-Auqaf – Eidgah, Charsadda Road in Peshawar with Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman in the chair.
‘Eid Al-Fitr 2017 will be celebrated on ‘one day’ across Pakistan’
Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman on Saturday announced that the Eid Al Fitr 2017 will be celebrated on the same day across Pakistan.
Mufti Munib made this announcement while speaking to media on Saturday.
Eid celebration on the same day across the country now seems much possible after Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai of Masjid Al Qasim went mysteriously missing just two days before the moon sighting event.
According to Popalzai’s family, he went to Islamabad two days ago and was last seen at Islamabad Airport.
Popalzai’s phone is also going off ever since his son told media.
It is feared that he has either been abducted or taken int custody by security agencies for creating a chaos in the country over moonsighting. Nothing could be taken as final word, however.
It is pertinent to mention here that he was supposed to lead a moon sighting committee of Masjid Al Qasim at the mosque today, June 24, after Maghrib prayers.
However, several prominent scholars of the country had stated that celebration of Eid a day before, (on June 24 ) would be un-Islamic.
Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet in Peshawar, under Mufti Munib ur Rehman on Sunday.
