DOHA – A committee has been set up for Shawwal moon sighting (Eid Al Fitr 2017 moon sighting) in Qatar, reported Gulf News.
The Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has called upon Muslims in Qatar to sight the new crescent moon (hilal) of Shawwal tomorrow evening, the 29th Ramadan 1438AH corresponding to June 24, GulfNews reported.
The committee asks whoever witnesses the crescent to head to the headquarters of the Ministry, located in Al Dafna Towers to report his testimony.
The committee will meet immediately after Maghreb prayer.
Similar committees have also been convened in Saudi Arabia and UAE.
Such a committee in UAE will meet today under Sultan Al Badi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to observe the Eid Al Fitr 2017 moon.
The moon sighting committee will convene after Maghrib prayers today at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.
The committee will confirm the start of the month of Shawwal, which will mark the end of Ramadan and the start of Eid Al Fitr.
Mr Al Badi called on all Sharia courts across the country to look out for the crescent moon and inform the committee.
