NEW DELHI – Indian head coach Anil Kumble has decided to step down from the post after the defeat to his team at the hands of arch-rivals Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final.
Kumble, the greatest leg-spinner of all times fo India, was subjected to criticism after his alleged rift with the Indian skipper Virat Kohli came into media.
Earlier on Tuesday, Anil Kumble, citing his commitment to an ICC meeting in London, did not accompany the Indian team to the West Indies.
However, according to Indian media Kohli had let the Cricket Advisory Committee know during a meeting that he had reached a dead end with regard to his relationship with Kumble.
There was hardly any interaction between Kohli and Kumble during the Champions Trophy tournament. Kumble kept to himself mostly or made the bowlers practice a few deliveries during practice sessions throughout the tournament.
During Kumble’s stint as coach, India has won 12 of their 17 Test matches while it has lost only one.
