Indian officials said the Pakistani nationals were released after they completed their respective prison terms.

Whereas Indian media has claimed that the this was a goodwill gesture by the Indian government after PM Narendra Modi had a brief chat with his Pakistani counterpart in Kazakhstan, during Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
