OVAL – Courtesy to opening batsman Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh have set a 309-run total for England in the opening game of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 Kennington Oval, London.
England skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and opted to bowl first against shaky Bangladesh, expecting a ‘little bit from the wicket’ in early morning start.
But, Bangladesh openers took the challenge on quite patiently and played out the tricky first hour of the game.
Both changed gears and began to play their shots. Soumya Sarkar returned to the dugout with his 26, while Imrul Kayes added 19 runs to the total before Tamim Iqbal hit brilliant 128 off 142 balls along with Mushfiqur Rahim (78) to take Bangladesh score to 260/3 in 44.1 overs.
Th duo added valuable 165-run partnership, before getting out on two back to back balls of the 45th over.
Sabbir Rehman (24) and Shakin al-Hasan (10) helped Bangladesh reach 300 mark in their innings.
After 50 overs, Bangladesh end innings on 305/6.
Liam Plunket took four off the six wickets that fell in the first innings.
