Sochi 2014  medals race onAs many as eight sets of medals will be awarded at Sochi Games on Feb 11.

Biathlon Medals and Venue

Women’s biathlon pursuit promises to be a gripping spectacle. Anastasiya Kuzmina of Slovakia has a 20 second handicap with an entire group of biathletes of medal hungry pursuing her, led by Olga Vilukhina. Also fighting for gold is Vita Semerenko of Ukraine, who came in third in the sprint, Darya Domracheva of Belarus, Tora Berger of Norway and Karin Oberhofer of Italy. However, as demonstrated in yesterday’s men’s pursuit, for victory in Sochi not only are running speed and precision shooting important but also as confident ski.

Women Racing Medals and Venue

At Laura, another women’s race will be held, the individual sprint. The gold medal favorite here is three-time champion from the Vancouver Games, Marit Bjoergen. Others seeking medals include American Kikkan Randall, Maiken Caspersen Falla and Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg of Norway, and, of course, Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland.

Men’s Sprint Medals and Venue

The best in the men’s individual sprint will also be determined. Here Russia is laying its hopes on Vancouver Olympic champion and 2013 world champion, Nikita Kriukov, who defeated Petter Northug earlier. In addition to Kriukov and Northug, other competitors will be compatriot Alexey Petukhov plus Emil Joensson and Teodor Peterson of Sweden, Eirik Brandsdal and Anders Gloeersen of Norway, and Federico Pellegrino of Italy.

Perosnal Skating Medals and Venue

Personal figure skating starts at Iceberg Skating Palace. The first to go out on to the Olympic ice are pairs presenting their short programs. The pairs competitions are interesting for the rivalry between two of the duos: Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov against Aljona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy. The Russians have already secured victory in the team tournament and a series of records during the season, but the Grand Prix final was won by Savchenko and Szolkowy.

Women Speed Skating Medals and Venue

Women will compete for gold in today’s 500 meters speed skating. The undisputed leader is Korean Lee Sang-Hwa, who has won seven out of eight races in the World Cup this season, and smashed four world records. Among those set to challenge her are Russia’s Olga Fatkulina and China’s Wang Beixing.

Ski Jumping Medals and Venue

At the RusSki Gorki Ski Jumping Center, a historic event will take place: the first ever women’s ski jump in the Olympics. The competition favorite is the youngster from Japan Sara Takanashi, who is only 17 years old.

Women Sliding Medals and Venue

At Sanki Sliding Center, women will continue to compete in the single heats. After the first half of the competition, the Germans are leading: gold winner in Vancouver Tatjana Hüfner, and 2013 world champion Natalie Geisenberger. Russian Natalia Khoreva is currently in fourth place.

Free Style Medals and Venue

In freestyle, another new event debuts at the Sochi Games: the women’s slopestyle competition. Experienced world champion Kaya Turski is the favorite here, but together with American World Cup winner Keri Herman, she will face serious competition from the other participants.

Snowboarding Medals and Venue

Snowboarding competitions in halfpipe will also be taking place at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park. American 2010 Olympic champion Shaun White is hoping to win his third Olympic gold. His compatriots Danny Davis and Gregory Bretz as well as Switzerland’s Iouri Podladtchikov may stop him, however.
