ISLAMABAD – The Oscar winner of Pakistan, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has won the 49th Annual Robert F Kennedy Journalism Awards for her documentary, A Girl in the River: The Prince of Forgiveness.
The documentary describes the tale of a woman who survived attempted honor killing by her own family. In 2016 Chinoy also won Oscar and Alfred I DuPont-Columbia University Award for the film.
“Speaking the truth is never easy especially given the world we live in today,” she said, as quoted by Tribune.
Sharmeen is a first Pakistani who has received this International Television category award.
This award was initiated by a group of journalists in December 1968, winning topics for this year include poverty, war in Syria, water crisis, immigration, criminal justice, and population.
The story of the documentary is so much relevant to the Sharmeen own experienced days.
