LAHORE – Senior leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and legal expert Senator Aitezaz Ahsan Tuesday played down the hype surrounding the Panama Leaks verdict, saying there won’t be any major breakthrough.
“The Supreme Court is unlikely to announce any major decision in the Panama Leaks case,” he said in an exclusive chat with SAMAA.
His remarks came shortly after the Supreme Court said that it would announce the Panama Leaks verdict on Thursday.
“There will be no major impact of the decision. However, Mian Sahab (Prime Minister) won’t be satisfied with the outcome,” Ahsan predicted.
The veteran PPP leader said that the Panama Leaks wasn’t about any individual or a family.
Heading the bench hearing a slew of petitions against the Sharif family, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa had observed that 26,000 pages were submitted in the Panamagate case and the judges will read “each word” of them. He observed that it was not a case wherein a short order could be passed.
“The court will decide the case only after considering the material submitted in the court and will announce its verdict in accordance with the law and the Constitution,” Justice Khosa remarked.
Pakistan Ruling Party’s chairman Nawaz Sharif’s family was named in Panama Leaks, published in March last year.
