LAHORE – More than 2253 illegal factories are running in the city without following any ISO’s drawn standard operating procedures (SOPs) which may cause untoward mishaps while administration is not interested for any legislation against such type of home industries.
The illegal factories functional in the city were being provided legal cover by corrupt officials of labour department, industries, civil defence and environment departments.
The city has apparently become a safe haven for illegal industrial units, as they are operating in without following any standard operating procedures (SOPs). Such factories are causing of misfortune as well as lives threat for the labours.
The factories are working, also having futuristic planning to curb the emission of poisonous gases and smoke, posing serious health risks to the people.
Sources told Pakistan Tribe that over than 863 illegal factories are set up in different areas of the city, including factories manufacturing plastic water tank, fats liquefying, tobacco and chips. More than 714 factories including paints, garbage, plastic bags exists in Shadrah and at Multan Road surroungings.
603 factories of fats liquefying, liquor and other narcotics, shoes are established in Shadra. factories in Kotlakhpat were creating stinky smell in the area. Moreover, 200 plastic factories, shoe factories, and chmical factories are also running in the surrounding areas of Johar Town.
Illegal factories are also established in Shadman Town, Ichra and Mazang. Over 73 marble and shoes factories are illegally functioning Kotlakphat, Sundar and Gulberg industrial zones.
“These industries in the urban limits have always been a cause of untowards mishaps as well as concern for people’s health, but the regrettable thing is that the practice still continues under the nose of the government,” the official sources said.
The sources revealed that factories are operating without the approval of the Industrial ministry.
“These illegal factories emit lethal gases in the air, which is already unbeatable in most parts of the city due to the emissions by unfit vehicles, both public and private,” said official.
Some of the small units for liquor manufacturing are situated in different areas where huge quantity of different chemicals, are dumped in the storage room. Such chemical might cause of any untoward incident.

All illegal factories have been warned to dutifully fulfill all legal requirements till September 22. District coordinator officer Lahore said that more than 2000 illegal factories functional in the city were being provided legal cover by corrupt officials of labour department, industries, civil defence and environment departments.
He added that the government cant shut more than 2000 SME’s as thousands of laborers would be left unemployed.
