OTTAWA – Pakistan’s Malala Yousufzai has been awarded the honorary Canadian Citizenship.
Malala is the sixth person who has honorary Canadian citizenship, also the youngest one to address Parliament.
She accepted a Canadian Flag and a certificate from Justin Trudeau also received a standing ovation in the House of Commons before his address.
Malala praised Canada for its help in refugee crisis and struggle for the advancement of woman rights.
“You are a true example to the world of what it means to stand up for humanity and I’m hopeful that you will inspire many more countries, more leaders, to follow your footsteps,” she said following a short ceremony inside the Library of Parliament, as quoted by CBC News.
She visited Ottawa’s Ridgemont High School and call for ‘collective fight to change’.
