Pakistani Government and TTP Dialogue: Peace talks depending on mediators!

Pakistani Government and TTP Dialogue: Peace talks depending on mediators! | PakistanTribeISLAMABAD – Despite the announcement of committees from both sides, Government and Tahreek Taliban Pakistan, peace talks are depending on mediators.

The demand of mediators showed that TTP have reservations on peace talks but not on the committee consisted by the government.

So, Tahreek Taliban Pakistan is looking for a “neautral” committee as a mediator while both sides, Government and TTP have already announced their committies.

The Pakistani Taliban have nominated the names of five political and religious leaders to mediate peace talks with government negotiators But government did not respond on the names while the nominated persons also issued different views.

The names include Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, Maulana Samiul Haq, former chief cleric of the Lal Masjid in Islamabad Maulana Abdul Aziz, Professor Mohammad Ibrahim of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), and Mufti Kifayatullah, a former lawmaker of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) from Mansehra.

Shahid Ullah Shahid said that mediators will play their role for peace talks between the government’s committee and TTP team.

Moulana Samiul Haq, Professor Ibrahim, Moulana Abdul Aziz and Mufti Kifayatullah did not show any reservation after getting nomination by TTP but Imran Khan made distance.

The head of Pakistan Tahreek Insaf has a clear stance and seems a main supporter of peace talks but responded hardly to his nomination by the TTP as a member of mediators.

Meanwhile, PTI chief Imran Khan sent a message from his official Twitter account that the “TTP should select their own Taliban representatives 4 (for) peace talks”.

However, Khan said the party would discuss how it could assist in the dialogue process at a meeting of its core committee scheduled for Monday.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said his government had decided to pursue peace talks with Taliban. The primeminister named a four-member committee comprising his Advisor on National Affairs Irfan Siddique, veteran journalist Rahimullah Yusufzai, former ambassador and expert on Afghanistan affairs Rustam Shah Mohmand and former ISI official Major (Retd) Amir Shah to facilitate the dialogue.

Just two days ago, TTP announced committee comprising over Qari Shakeel, Shahid Ullah Shahid, Omer Khalid Khurasani, Khalid Haqqani and Assmat Ullah Mauvia.

The banned militant group announced the names after a meeting of its central shura(council) which was held at an undisclosed location.

Than very next day TTP announced mediators and said “Our shura will communicate its stance to the five nominees who will mediate talks with the government team,”.
