TRINIDAD – Courtesy to firepower from the opener Evin Lewis, West Indies have comfortably beaten Pakistan by seven wickets in the third T20 of the four-match series Saturday, April 1, at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and decided to bat first on a slow pitch. Just to his disappointment, two of the Pakistan wickets, fell in the first over of the innings, when Badree removed both Shehzad (4) and Imad (0).
Pakistan felt the heat there. Kamran Akmal and Babar Azam played a few overs in quiet, keeping it nice and low. Akmal began to stretch his hands in the fifth over, and at the end of the powerplay, Pakistan were 42/2. He kept batting with a free spirit, took chances, and it seemed it was his day.
With an 88-run stand, he left the crease on 48, leaving Pakistan on 92. In-form Malik could not last long either. He went for just 2. The wickets kept tumbling after them, as Babar (43), Sarfraz (3) and then Wahab (1) didn’t add much to the team’s total.
Fakhar Zaman (21) showed some resistance, but he too was run out in the 20th over. Pakistan was restricted to 137/8.
West Indies tumbled in the first innings, as opener Chadwick got out earlier in the first over. Samuels went for 17, but it was Evin Lewis’ day today. He single-handedly took the game away from Pakistan. Scoring 91 off 51, he chased down the target of 138 runs, in just 15 overs.
No Pakistan bowler could stop him from scoring runs. Lewis was chosen Man Of The Match for his blistering innings.
