DUBAI – After a thrilling contest on Friday, Peshawar Zalmi beat Karachi Kings by 24 runs to reach the PSL 2017 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.
Earlier, Karachi Kings skipper Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and sent Peshawar in for batting.
Kamran Akmal announced himself with losing boundaries on first two balls of the inning. He slowed down a little in the middle overs but then began to take on Peshawar bowlers.
His partner complimented him utmost, contributing 36 runs in the 97-run opening partnership. The first wicket for Zalmi fell on 97 runs in 11.3 overs.
In came out-of-form Marlen Samuels, he took his time to build the inning, and the scoring rate came down a little bit.
Completing his fifty on just 23 balls, the senior Akmal went on to score his first HBL PSL 2017 100 off just 60 balls. His brilliant was studded with seven massive sixes. His run-out in the last over could help Zalmi to post 181/3 in the first innings.
Karachi Kings started their chase in such an unfortunate manner, loosing three wickets inside the powerplay and scoring just 23 runs.
Gayle’s bat was silent; he scored two runs off first 15 balls. The pressure on the other end kept growing, and the wickets kept tumbling.
Kings were already four down for 40 in the 9th over when Gayle began to explode Zalmi bowlers for biggies. He hit four huge sixes in no time to not only improve his scoring rate but also to bring the required rate down. Reaching to his individual 40, Gayle chopped one on to the stumps from Wahab.
Pollard started right from where his teammate had left it. He began hitting Zalmi bowlers now. He reached to a quick 50-run stand on just 23 balls. Kings still required 50 runs off 23 balls. Hasan Ali bowled an exceptional over, giving away just 5 runs in. The pressure was building on Karachi now as they required 46 more runs in last three overs.
Wahab Riaz bowled three dot balls to Pollard in the next over, and then took his wicket on 5th ball, conceding only a 4 in 5 balls. The match was gone from the hands of Karachi Kings with Pollard’s wicket. He departed for 47 runs.
Imad Wasim also departed for 24 runs. After no more twist in the story, Karachi lost the game by 24 runs to let Peshawar Zalmi reach PSL 2017 final.
