DUBAI – Islamabad United (IU) have beaten Quetta Gladiators (QG) by 1 run in the 17th game of HBL PSL 2017 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, pakistantribe.com reported.
According to PakistanTribe’s sports desk, Quetta Gladiators skipper Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and sent United into bat first.
The moved worked fine as they had the in-form Dwayne Smith’s wicket on the third ball of first over. Debutante batsman Hussain Talat scored brilliant 56-run innings off jus 39 balls to bring his team back in the game.
Rafatullah too went to the pavilion after adding 17 runs off 16 balls.
A late cameo by Watson (29) helped Islamabad United post a good total of 165/6 in the first inning.
Quetta Gladiators started the chase with the same pace they did last night. Though they lost Shafiq early, Ahmed Shehzad (60) and Kevin Pietersen (69) posted 133-run partnership in 14.3 overs to take the game away from Islamabad. Unfortunately, both got out back to back to give Islamabad a hope.
Match stats show that this proved to be a turning point as it brought two new batsmen on the crease.
Needing five runs from the last over of birthday boy Muhammad Sami, Quetta dramatically lost the game on the final ball.
Sami was in hospital earlier on Friday but few hours late he clicnhed the win for his team and declared man of the match.
Islamabad Unites is the only team Quetta Gladiators not been able to defeat during Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017. QG lost both matches against IU in current season.
