Early treatment can eradicate Cancer, says Pak expert | pakistantribe.com

KARACHI – Pakistani Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Chairman said that Cancer is a completely curable and preventable disease, pakistantribe.com reported.

Muhammad Naeem, Chairman PAEC has discussed ways and means to tackle the disease by adopting precautionary measures while addressing to a public gathering on Saturday.

According to PakistanTribe’s (PT) correspondent, Muhammad Naeem was addressing a Cancer Awareness ceremony held at National Coaching Centre (NCC) in Karachi.

PAEC chairman says cancer is a curable disease but lack of awareness has made it incurable and today it is spreading rapidly in Pakistan.

Cancer is basically a group of disease with abnormal cell growth having the potential to attack and spread to other parts of the human body.

The PAEC is one of the prestigious organizations in Pakistan that has been robustly active in the field of nuclear medicine radiation therapy for cancer treatment and since 1960 it has been working on cancer eradication in Pakistan.

The chairman explains PAEC is operating 18 cancer treatment centers across Pakistan providing facilities to nearly 80 percent of cancer patients both in diagnosing as well as treating them while five cancer centers are working in Sindh.

He revealed that breast cancer in women and appendix as well as mouth cancer in male population of Pakistan spreading rapidly.

Earlier, minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has informed the public about the government resolve to eradicate the disease from the country as soon as possible.

According to an estimate the toll of cancer cases is expected to surge by 70 percent in the upcoming 20 years; it is a wake-up call for the government to formulate and implement national cancer prevention policy on a war footing basis.

Experts believe that more awareness can transform mindset of the people about cancer related myths, misconception and traditions.
