Islamabad United stun Peshawar Zalmi in PSL opener

DUBAI – After a nail-biting thriller, Islamabad United has beaten Peshawar Zalmi by 8 wickets in the in the first match of PSL 2017 at the Dubai Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

Islamabad United skipper Misbahul Haq won the toss and elected to bowl first.

They had a perfect start of the game as giant bowler Mohammad Irfan removed Mohammad Hafeez on the first ball of the game. After that, Kamran Akmal’s firework took the game away.

David Milan also helped the cause, adding 44 runs in the 122-run partnership with Kamran Akmal.

Courtesy of some excellent batting performance from Akmal, Peshawar Zalmi set a high total of 191 runs for Islamabad United. in the first match of PSL 2017.

After the rain in the 8th over of United innings, the target was revised to 173 from 18 overs.

United started the chase aggressively but lost Sharjeel Khan early. He went for just one run. Bradd Haddin was promoted up the order, and he proved the decision right. Haddin scored quick 73 runs off just 35 balls.

Watson was the newcomer after Haddin. When Islamabad needed 27 runs of the last two, he smashed Junaid all around for 20 runs in the second last over for 20 runs to make it easy.

At last, Islamabad won the game by 7 wickets.

Haddin was chosen Man of the Match.
