ISLAMABAD – Couch Potato today announced its launch in Pakistan, with the first delivery app in the shared economy/ on-demand space, pakistantribe.com reported.
Couch Potato aims to pioneer in a previously untapped market here in Pakistan by providing a seamless means for people to do their everyday delivery related chores, with a mobile app that connects them with a rider.
Their motorbike riding crew, or heroes as they call them, are freelance workers similar to Careem drivers and are spread out in the hundreds across the city. Couch Potato claims their riders will be available in under 15 minutes in most areas of Karachi and Islamabad and are set apart from other delivery services because of the way they operate.
The service is meant to help household members who are usually caught up in doing the day-to-day delivery related errands, win back some of their time by getting someone else to pick up the dry-cleaning, get the groceries or even deliver something to a customers’ home. They are geared towards home to home, shop to home and office to office package deliveries at the moment but are expecting to expand quickly with a range of similar services.
“We want to empower the people of Pakistan to use their time more efficiently. With our app we hope people can spend more time doing meaningful things, like being with family, and less time on the mundane day to day tasks that they aren’t required for. In addition, our service will benefit thousands of young aspiring entrepreneurs around the country to work as riders.” – Salman Wasay, CEO
Riders go through extensive and regular training to ensure a secure and seamless experience from start to finish. According to the company, sending or receiving something with Couch Potato will be a delivery experience unlike any other they’ve had in Pakistan, not just from a customer service point of view but because they don’t employ a team of riders. Instead, Couch Potato recruits riders in the hundreds, as business owners who use their app platform to provide delivery services.
The app is built as a peer to peer technology by a very passionate team. To them, the internet is magic and allows sellers and buyers to share services and conduct trusted transactions over smartphones in a way never before possible. They believe sharing and cooperation in the production and consumption of goods and services in Pakistan will pave the way forward for a brighter future for the country.
The Social Sharing Economy offers immense value for communities, especially in underdeveloped nations. Derived from not-for-profit initiatives, the on demand economy has evolved into a collection of firms that connect millions of consumers with other private citizens who can provide goods and services quickly and efficiently. With Uber and Careem already sending ripples through the country, we’re keen to see how Couch Potato will add to the landscape.
