LAHORE – An indication has been given to the team management to appoint wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed as the ODI captain for the Champions Trophy 2017.
The decision was taken to appoint Sarfraz as skipper for the ODI and T20 after West Indies tour during the annual Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Governing Body meeting earlier this month, revealed seasoned journalist Wajid Khan in a private TV Show.
He further maintained that Misbah ul Haq is most likely to bid farewell to Test cricket and current ODI skipper Azhar Ali will take reigns.
He was of the opinion that despite the good performances, there no chances of Mohammad Hafeez being appointed as ODI captain, however, he mentioned that it does not take too long to PCB in changing their mind.
It is pertinent to mention here that on the special request of Azhar Ali, Mohammad Hafeez was given a chance to make a return into the ODI side.
In the absence of vice-captain Sarfraz Ahmed, Hafeez was made standing captain when Azhar Ali got an injury during first ODI, and he luckily made Pakistan win that match through his impressive captaincy.
Hafeez will also lead the team in the third game on Thursday as Azrhar has yet not recovered from the hamstring injury.
