Ban imposed on doctors’ private practice near health facilities in Lower Dir |

TIMERGARA – The Lower Dir health department on Thursday imposed ban on doctors’ private practice within the radius of 500 meters from the health facility. The decision was announced at a health review meeting held at the district council hall with District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Shaukat Ali in the chair. Besides heads of Tehsil head quarters hospitals, basic health units, rural health centers and category D hospitals in the district, drug inspector Wahid Murad, WHO representative Dr Shahid, district monitoring officer health Atif Khan and MS Timergara hospital Dr Hanifullah attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the existing situation and available resources at health facilities in the district. Speaking on the occasion Dr Shaukat Ali said that doctors and paramedics would not be allowed to continue private practice near government health facilities.

He said that all hospitals in the district would be provided with sufficient medicines next week so that poor patients could get benefits of the government facility. The meeting was informed that emergency and labour room services would be made functional at all BHUs, THQs and Category D hospitals.

The meeting also reviewed arrangements for the next national immunization drive commencing from Jan, 16. The DHO asked the participants to ensure presence of lady health workers (LHWs) and other officials during the anti-polio drive. He said chairmen of Union Council Polio Eradication Committees (UPEC) would be made responsible in case of any negligence in vaccination campaign.
