KARACHI – Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani will take an extra charge of acting governor after the demise of the provincial governor Justice (retd) Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui.
“Speaker Provincial Assembly to act as, or perform functions of Governor in his absence.- When the Governor, by reason of absence from Pakistan or for any other cause, is unable to carry out his duties, the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly and in his absence any other person as the President may nominate shall perform the functions of Governor until the Governor returns to Pakistan or, as the case may be, resumes his functions,” Article 104 of the Constitution read.
Earlier, Sindh Siddiqui had passed away at the age of 78.
According to our correspondent, following chest pain, Siddiqui was taken to South City Hospital, where he breathed his last.
The 31st governor of Sindh had taken oath on November 11, 2016, replacing Dr Ishratul Ebad. He was admitted to hospital on the same day.
He got discharged on December 15 from the hospital after intensive care unit (ICU) was set up in the Governor House.
