ISLAMABAD – Election Commission of Pakistan while rejecting the requests of Punjab and Sindh for extension in schedule of local bodies’ elections has issued proposed schedule of LB polls for both provinces.
According to new schedule polls will be held in Sindh on 18th and in Punjab 30th January 2014. The electoral process in the two provinces will start on 9th December 2013. Every voter would be given seven ballot papers.
Local Body Polls Schedule For Sindh and Punjab:
- Nomination papers will be issued from 10th to 13th of December and can be submitted on the 14th.
- Scrutiny will take place from 15th to 19th of December and appeals against the rejection of nomination papers can be filed on 20th and 21st of December.
- The appeals will be finalized from December 22nd to 25th.
- Nomination papers can be withdrawn by 26th and final list of candidates will be issued the same day.
The high level meeting of the ECP chaired by Acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani was held on Tuesday, during which the commission presented its new proposed schedule for LG polls to be held in Sindh and Punjab. Federal Secretaries of different ministries‚ provincial election commissioners, secretary election commission, members of the election commission, chief secretaries of four provinces‚ Chairman NADRA and Managing Director Printing Corporation of Pakistan attended the meeting.
Meanwhile addressing a news conference in Islamabad after the ECP, Additional Secretary of the Commission Sher Afghan said that the provinces have been asked to finalize their rules and regulations regarding elections by 28th of this month.
He said that election will take place on 18 and 30 January in Sindh and Punjab respectively and this way there would be 18 days for Sindh and 34 days for Punjab for printing of ballot papers.
Sher Afgan said printing of 11 crore ballot papers for Sindh and 30 crore ballot papers for Punjab will start on 26 December.
Additional Secretary Election Commission said task for provision of magnetized ink has been assigned to the concerned quarters they will provide 1.5 million magnetized pads for Punjab and 10 lakh for Sindh whereas they will provide three lakh bottles of magnetized ink for Punjab and 1,25,000 bottle of ink for Sindh.
