MELBOURNE: In response to Pakistan’s mammoth first innings total of 443/9d, Australia responded thanks to centuries from captain Smith and vice-captain David Warner strongly.
Warner’s quick fire (144) top the order set the tone for Aussies while pursuing such a big target, the middle order responded well including Usman Khwaja unluckily returning on 97.
Renshaw (10) went on early, but Handscomb (54) and Maddison (22) played their part in reaching Pakistani total on the fourth day and taking a 22-run lead at the end of the fourth day play.
Warner was given a life earlier on the third day when he got clean bowled by Wahab on a ball. This proven to be enough chance for him to destroy Pakistan bowling. Aussies scored at the run rate of 4.5 + throughout the innings.
Amir bowled exceptionally well throughout the innings so far but was deprived of wickets. Whereas, Wahab, Yasir and Sohail Khan took two wickets each.
Australia will continue their smashing on the fifth day, to put Pakistan in pressure and get them out early.
