ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, Baligh-ur-Rehman, Minister of State for Interior, informed the Senate that there are 57,839 fake Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) detected during a reverification programme till December 20, 2016.
For making counterfeit CNICs, 54 employees of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) have been found to involved in such cases.
After the investigation 16 out of 54 employs have been dismissed from the service.
On July 1, 2016, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, the Interior Minister of Pakistan approved the directive for re-verification of CNICs across the country.
During the re-verification programme 9.4 million people were sent SMS.
