BERLIN: On Tuesday, a 23 year old Pakistani asylum seeker, named Naved B, ran over lorry on mob in Christmas market in Berlin.
The suspect allegedly to have links to the terrorist organization, while police suspecting the same, keeping the last incident occurred in Nice on July 14, in the city of Germany.
In the attack 12 people were killed while 48 were seriously injured.
Police seized the suspect after he left the lorry and trying to flee on foot.
The suspect stole the lorry after killing its owner, Ariel Zurawski. a Polish, who had been missing since Monday while he was unreachable.
Police found the owner’s dead body in the passenger seat of the lorry.
Naved, the attacker is believed to enter in Germany either in late 2015 or earlier in 2016. He was known to police for minor crimes but never suspected to carry out such action.
The Berlin police have searched shelter near Berlin airport where he was believed to be living.
Angela Merkel, German Chancellor. said it would be “particularly sickening” if he were proven to be a refugee.
“We have to assume this was a terrorist attack and those behind the attack would be punished as harshly as the law allows”, Mrs Merkel said in a short statement on Tuesday.
The place where the attack happened is the main market closed to Kurfuerstendamm at Breitscheidplatz in Berlin’s west.
The truck was loaded with steel beams entered the market at 19:14 GMT (20:14 local time), which the busiest time of the day.
The truck plough through wooden huts and stands crowded with tourist and locals.
