[dropcap]Q[/dropcap]UETTA – Baluchistan’s provincial assembly elected it first ever lady Speaker Raheela Hameed Durrani on Thursday. She was elected as Speaker of the house unopposed.
In a prompt action, Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai called in the session on Thursday where nomination papers were filed between 9am to 10am and in the next hour the papers were scrutinized.
Durrani belongs to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) which leads the provincial government along with Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) and National Party.
She is the 14th speaker of Balochistan Assembly. She was born in Quetta and have done her M.A, L.L.B from University of Balochistan. She also holds certificates in Leadership, Environment and Sustainable Development.
The newly elected speaker of Balochistan Assembly is a practicing Lawyer by profession as well as do philanthropy. Durrani is currently a member of Public Safety Commission Balochistan, National Commission on Status of Women (NCSW), and Balochistan Olympic Association.
It may also be mentioned here that election for the position of Chief Minister, which fell vacant after the resignation of Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch on Wednesday, will be held in the evening.
Sardar Sanaullah Zehri of PML-N is the main candidate for the slot. As according to the Murree pact signed by the tripartite alliance Zehri will be elected as CM Balochistan after National Party’s Abdul Malik resigns.
Meanwhile, PML-Q’s Deputy Speaker Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo has also resigned from his position. However, name for filling in the slot are yet to surface.
