[dropcap]C[/dropcap]ALIFORNIA – A new app that reportedly harvests Facebook users personal details for potential sale to advertisers has raised concerns over the way data is sometimes unwittingly given out.

Meoww’s quiz questions such as “Who is your craziest friend?” and “Which friend gives you positive vibes?” are designed to pick out aspect’s of a person’s online friendships by accessing information.

Once stored this data is then subject to the firm’s terms and conditions  several other social media apps work this way too, the Independent reports.

The Meoww app requests all information on Facebook including friends, timeline activity and photos.

The quizzes also yield valuable data for targeted marketing by gleaning a person likes and interests.

The app’s terms and conditions say: “We receive data about you whenever you use or interact with Meaww, such as how and when you view, use or otherwise interact with content and materials in our WebSite.

“For example, we may infer data from your replies and answers to the quizzes in this WebSite or the results thereof”.

“We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes.”

“Your continued use of our services will be subject to the then-current privacy policy.”

The app says that it will only sell on information if it has permission to do so – which you give by logging on to the website.
