Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn, one of the greatest voices ever recorded, he possessed an extraordinary range of vocal abilities and could perform at a high level of intensity for several hours.
Extending the 600-year old Qawwali tradition of his family, Khan is widely credited with introducing Qawwali music to international audiences.
He is popularly known as “Shahenshah-e-Qawwali”, meaning “The King of Kings of Qawwali”

-He was married to his first cousin Naheed Nusrat who died just 7 days ago.
-Renowned singer Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was chosen by Nusrat Sahb at the age of three for tutoring the traditions of Qawwali and Rahat started singing formally in public gatherings by the age of seven.
-Nusrat Sahb’s birth name is “Pervez Fateh Ali Khan”.
-Nusrat Sahb’s brotherwho accompanied him in almost all international gatherings is known as Harmonium Raj Sahib (King of the Harmonium). He is Rahat’s father.
-He sang with many international artistes. His song with Peter Gabriel in Natural Born Killers was a hit.
-Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan had a great sense of identification of correct lyrics,rythm to be put in a song.Many a times he would ask lyricists to slightly change the lyrics and used to discuss it with Farukkh Fateh Ali Khan,his younger brother during composition who also was a chief exponent in composing some high-octane qawallies.
-Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was taken ill with kidney and liver failure on 11 August 1997 in London, while on the way to Los Angeles in order to receive a kidney transplant. He died of a sudden cardiac arrest at Cromwell Hospital, London on 16 August 1997, aged 48.
