Only 25% Pakistanis celebrate New Year

ISLAMABAD – According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, only 25% Pakistanis celebrate New Year. Of these individuals, 40% do so by wishing their family and friends.

A nationally representative sample of men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “Some people celebrate the New Year while others do not do you celebrate the New Year like any other festival?” Responding to this, 25% replied in the affirmative while 74% said no. 1% did not respond.

Question: “Some people celebrate the New Year while others do not do you celebrate the New Year like any other festival?”

Yes: 25%

No: 74%

DK/NR: 1%

The individuals who responded positively were further asked: “If yes, then how do you celebrate the New Year?” In response, 15% said they make their favorite food while 21% meet up with friends/relatives. 18% light up their houses along with 40% who wish their family and friends and 10% pray. 1% did not respond.
